twitter-locked
When I set it up using a Tumblr account which has the same name as my Twitter account but a different password, my Twitter account is locked for incorrect password. I've had no problems using a Twitter / Tumblr combination with Tweete 2 which have different usernames. I guess if I used the same password for the account with the same username, this would also work but I have not tested this.

PhoneCam records ambient sound with photo

PhonoCam takes a photo and record the ambient sound at the scene. The image came be saved to the iPhone Camera Roll separately. The sound files can be exported to iTunes. In iTunes the photo is included in the AIFF sound file and is used as the cover art for the sound.

In order to import the sound files onto the Mac, there is clear step-by-step here:

http://audibles.jp/2009/03/phonocam-file-backup-tutorial/

When uploaded to Posterous, the original sound file has 3 seconds of noise added at the end. I tried an old Mac app called AudialHub to convert the AIFF file to MP3 and it had the same problem. Then, I used WireTap Studio which did the conversion without the noise. This is what I've uploaded here. There is no problem with the original sound file in iTunes.

PhonoCam brings a new dimension to taking photos.

Howto Autopost using PicPosterous v1.1

PicPosterous v1.1 for the iPhone has added some very useful improvements.
  1. Images can be *Deleted* from any Album managed by PicPosterous.
  2. Images can be added to *Any* of the Albums managed by PicPosterous, not just the most recent.
  3. You can Autopost an Album when it is *complete*, not just when it is created.
  4. You can *choose* which sites to Autopost to rather than Autopost to everything.
  5. You can share a link to a Gallery by email. The email includes a link to the Gallery and the first image.
Whilst 1. and 2. are obvious e.g. add a photo, Select Album, job done or tap Album, move to photo, tap Trash icon; I couldn't work out how to use the Autoposting (and  thus the email option), at first. These are the steps:

Playing with iKalied Kaleidoscope

Step-by-step for iKalied:
1. Choose image (Button 1). I used a screen capture of one of my apps pages.
2. Position image start point (Button 4). --Fiddly frustration--. Tap Done.
3. Choose Symmetry Mode (Button 5). Repeat through all six options. Manually animate by sliding finger over screen.
4. Tap Save (Button 2).
5. Tap Animate (Button 3) and watch for an attractive image.
6. Tap screen to stop animation.

iPhone tip: Jump to the top of page

In many apps (e.g. Safari, NetNewsWire) if you tap the space between the time and the battery symbol, you will scroll to the top of the page. Very useful when at the bottom of long pages.

How to send more than 5 photos using Mail on the iPhone

1. In the Camera Roll: tap the Forwarding button
2. Tap to on the photos to select then tap Copy
3. In Mail: Tap and hold down in the message area of the email. When the Magnifier Lens appears, release and tap Paste.

You can send upto 5 photos using the Share button but for more than 5, use copy and paste. An advantage of copy and paste is that this method will send the original sized image and avoid the photo resizing problem.

Note: There is a limit to the total size of the attachment sent by the iPhone 3G of 5MB. So if the photos are all taken at full resolution 1600x1200, it is likely that you will not be able to send more than 5 photos because the sixth photo would make the attachment greater than 5MB.

I described how to send just one original size photo on this post:

Video Notes: Posterous and the iPhone

1. Take care to email video to YouTube@p or YouTube+Twitter@p only, otherwise the video will go to Flickr as well when using post@p.

WIth my first video, I emailed it to post@p. The first 1'30" of the video appeared on Flickr as well but with all of the 3 minutes of sound. When the video was played, I sounded like a 'Pinky and Perky' speed-talker. Maybe that was an improvement feature.

2. Turn on Airplane Mode when recording video of the iPhone.
